Women in Mining Nigeria (WIMIN) with the support from the Ford Foundation will today 14th March 2022 validate a research on Gender and Gender Justice in the Solid Mineral Sector in Ebonyi State. The Research Validation is part of efforts by WIMIN towards mainstreaming gender and gender justice in the Nigerian solid mineral sector and to address cross-cutting issues affecting women in the sector. The research validation which will attract various stakeholders in the mining sector, including the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mining Cadastral Office, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Law Makers, Traditional Leaders and Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners will be proceeded by a policy dialogue to deepen discussion on the observations and recommendations of the research.

In a statement issued by Hon. Engr. Janet Adeyemi, President of WIMIN, she said: "we are enthusiastic with the united efforts of women especially in Ebonyi State, who have positioned WIMIN prominently in the state.

The research validation and Policy Dialogue will address key issues affecting female miners and open up space for them with a direct impact on the rest of the country". She charges all women across the mining sector to rise to the opportunities in the sector and involve stakeholders in meaningful engagement towards their collective progress. WIMIN is poised to educate and build various groups of Women in Mining across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria. This is part of its mission to create economic opportunities, empower women to engage in safe and sustainable mining practices in Nigeria while guaranteeing their fundamental rights to be at the table for their voices to be heard. It is our prayers that all relevant stakeholder in the mining sector in Nigeria will join hands together with WIMIN to intensify efforts towards mainstreaming women in the solid mineral sector in Nigeria and to improve their socio-economic lives.
